GGCA Makes News at Bangkok Climate Change Negotiations

Bangkok, September 29–The Global Gender and Climate Alliance (GGCA), of which WEDO is a member, is making big strides at this week’s climate change negotiations in Bangkok, Thailand.

“Nine months ago, there was absolutely no gender language in climate change negotiations. Now (in the Bangkok meetings), we are entering the negotiations with 23 paragraphs (citing) women and gender equality and equity,” said Cate Owren, programme coordinator for sustainable development of the Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO), in a press conference here held Monday.

UN Calls for Greater Role for Women in Climate Change Decision-making

New York, September 29– In a message to the high-level event on “Peace and Security through Women’s Leadership: Acting on 1325 and Climate Change,” organized in New York by Finland and Liberia, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on UN member States to give women a greater say in addressing climate change challenges as equal partners in global discussions.

Appeal to World Leaders on Moral and Ethical Dimensions of Climate Change

NewYork, September 24—WEDO joins other non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council, leaders of the world’s religions, and other members of civil society, to urge the governments of the world to participate in this week’s UN High Level Event on Climate Change through representatives at the highest level and to forge a climate change agreement worthy of the trust of humankind.
