[ November 30, 2010 6:30 pm to November 30, 2011 8:00 pm. ] CARE International and the Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO) are partnering on a side event at UNFCCC COP-17 on November 30, 2011 from 6:30-8pm in the Hex River Room. This event will use an interactive discussion format to explore the complexities of vulnerability from a gender perspective and make recommendations to input into an adaptation framework that works for everyone.

New York, July 30th 2011– As you may know, several GGCA members have been very engaged during the last year and a half in strengthening the gender inclusiveness and gender equality in the development of the Climate Investment Funds (CIFs) (the CTF- Clean Technology Fund and the SCF – Strategic Climate Fund). One strategy GGCA members identified to ensure engagement on climate and gender issues was to create a dedicated observer seat for a gender equality or women’s empowerment expert or organization within each of the CIF Trust Fund Committees and Subcommittees.

On October 2011 we are expected to reach a population of 7 billion. In an effort to create dialogue and action surrounding this issue UNFPA has launched the 7 Billion Actions campaign. “The 7 Billion Actions campaign will promote dialogue on what it means to live in a world with so many people and encourage action on issues that affect us all.”

The Fourth World Conference on Women took place in Beijing in 1995. Representatives from civil society and governments around the globe assembled and they approved a Platform for Action to serve as a blueprint for efforts to enable women to participate fully as citizens in societies everywhere. The conference agenda was expansive, including many aspects of women’s lives and addressing the varied family, social, political and professional roles of women.
