Women and Sustainable Development Panel Featuring Eleanor Blomstrom

Eleanor Blomstrom, Sustainable Development and Climate Change Coordinator, will speak on a panel entitled “Women and Sustainable Development”, held by the International Steering Committee of the United Nation’s Civil Society Development Forum. The panel is part of the NGO preparations for the United Nations Economic and Social Council’s review of international development goals, with specific attention to gender equality and women’s empowerment. The panel will take place on Tuesday, May 4^th at 3:15-4:45pm.

Franciscans International is hosting its First Annual Training Program on May 1st-2nd in preparation for the 18th Session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD). The program starts at 9am Saturday morning and will take place at the International Catholic Organizations Center at 323 East 47th Street (Holy Family Church building, 3rd Floor). WEDO’s Rachel Harris will lead a session on “The UN Millennium Development Goals, Climate Change & Poverty from 10:45am-12pm on May 1st.

UNIFEM/NCRW Conference on Violence Against Women

The US National Committee for UNIFEM and the National Council for Research on Women are organizing a National Conference entitled “Strategic Imperatives for Ending Violence Against Women: Linkages to Education, Economic Security, and Health”. On June 11th from 3-5pm, WEDO is co-hosting a panel discussion on Environment, Climate Change and Violence against Women. The conference will be at Hunter College, West Wing, East 68th Street and Lexington Avenue in New York City. Commission on Sustainable Development

The 18th Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD18) will meet at UN Headquarters in New York from May 3-14. CSD18 will focus on transportation, mining, and the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns.

UNFCCC Meeting in Bonn

AWG-KP 11 and AWG-LCA 9 will meet at the UNFCCC Headquarters in Bonn for this year’s first round of formal UN Climate Change negotiations. WEDO is represented there by Sustainable Development and Climate Change Coordinator Eleanor Blomstrom, and Global Advocacy Associate Sandra Freitas.
