New York, March 10 — In response to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s recent appointment of an all-male High Level Advisory Board on Climate Change Financing, we have written the attached open letter expressing the need for women to be on the high level board.  We invite you to add your organization’s name to the letter.

International Women’s Day: IUCN honors WEDO’s Cate Owren and other women leaders in climate change solutions

New York, March 8 — Today, on the occasion of 2010 International Women’s Day (March 8), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) honors leaders who are at the forefront of women’s empowerment in climate change solutions. Cate Owren, WEDO’s Program Director, is among the honorees. It is a privilege for WEDO to be honored alongside such a remarkable group of women, all of whom are partners and allies of WEDO in the work for a just, equitable and gender-responsive solution to climate change.

U.N. Women’s Agency Remains Politically Paralysed

New York, March 5 — A longstanding proposal for the much awaited reform of the UN Gender Equality Architecture (GEAR) is moving at a slower pace than many women gathered at CSW-54 had hoped. Civil society and women’s groups cannot wait any longer and call on Member states to establish the promised women’s agency now. GEAR Campaign Launches Spoof Newspaper

New York, March 1 — The GEAR (Gender Equality Architecture Reform) Campaign for the new women’s entity at the UN has produced a spoof newspaper, The New Times for Women, to promote the campaign’s vision for the new ’super agency’. The Europe Working Group led the project, launched at the opening of the Commission on the Status of Women meeting, and will be distributing thousands of copies at the UN during CSW this week.
