Staking Claim to Our Future
RIO DE JANEIRO (JUNE 13)- It is now the final countdown to Rio+20, the Conference on Sustainable Development, taking place next week in Rio de Janeiro. Over 20,000 people are expected to convene, with government delegates tasked to negotiate the sustainability, equity and viability – really, the possibility – of the future. Women on the Road to Rio: Meet the Recipients of the Women’s Major Group/ UN Women Travel Fund
In partnership with UN Women, the Women’s Major Group is proud to announce the recipients of travel funding to attend the Rio+20 meeting and participate in capacity building and Women’s Major Group advocacy work. This fund was generously provided by the Rockefeller Foundation to facilitate the participation of civil society, including grassroots women’s organizations in the Rio process.

WEDO staff members, as well as representatives from organizations, major groups and governments from across the globe, are headed to Rio de Janerio, Brazil this week for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD), or Rio+20, taking place on 20-22 June, 2012, with the Third PrepComm commencing on June 13th. More than 500 registered side-events will take place from 13-22 June, 2012.

Celebration of Women’s Leadership at Rio+20
[ June 20, 2012; 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. ] This celebration will be in memory of Marie Khan of the CBD Secretariat. We will award 10 women leaders for their leadership roles over the last 10 years. Awardees will represent diverse regions as well as levels of engagement, bringing voices together from the grassroots and highest national and international political levels. Invitees – The celebration will bring together over 100 “friends” of the co-hosts and award recipients, including high-level gender stewards and media representatives.
