Exciting News From Washington about Gender and Climate Change
New York, April 7–The House of Representatives has issued a resolution (H.R. 98), introduced by Congresswomen Barbara Lee (D-CA), Betty McCollum (D-MN) and Anna Eshoo (D-CA) that recognizes the disproportionate impacts of climate change on women and the efforts of women globally to address climate change. The resolution, among other things, encourages the use of gender-sensitive frameworks in developing policies to address climate change, which account for the specific impacts of climate change on women. Climate Justice and Reproductive Justice: Making the Link
New York, April 1–WEDO’s U.S. Climate Change Campaign Coordinator, Rachel Harris, will be speaking at the conference, ‘From Abortion Rights to Social Justice: Building the Movement for Reproductive Freedom’. The conference will be held at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA from Friday, April 3rd – Sunday April 5th. Rachel will speak about gender and climate change on a panel entitled ‘Climate Justice and Reproductive Justice: Making the Link’ from 3:15-4:45pm on Saturday, April 4th. World Conference Against Racism—Human Rights Roundtable
New York, March 25—U.S. Climate Change Coordinator, Rachel Harris, will take part in a round table tomorrow on Women and Immigration within the context of the World Conference Against Racism Review, Durban II, to be held by the United Nations in April 2009, Geneva, Switzerland.
The Round Table, hosted by the Shabazz Center as part of its monthly Human Rights Round Table, will address the issues of gender-based inequities and discrimination at the workplace, the household, the political stage and in healthcare services.
