WEDO Celebrates Board Member Nafis Sadik

WEDO congratulates and celebrates Board member Dr. Nafis Sadik on being named a Feminist Majority Foundation’s Eleanor Roosevelt Award winner for Global Women's Rights.  Considered a pioneer in the field of reproductive health and rights and improving women's lives, Dr. Sadik served as Executive Director of UNFPA and as the Secretary-General of the International Conference on Population and Development in 1994, where she advanced the idea of women’s health and equality being directly tied to larger economic and social development. Gender & Governance Program Coordinator Speaks on Gender Equity

Program Coordinator Colette Tamko spoke at the Inter-Parliamentary Union earlier this year on The Role of Parliaments in Financing for Gender Equality.  She said, "Unless women are adequately represented in government and politics, the international community will not meet its commitment to eradicate poverty and to achive gender equality by 2015."
