Women and Gender Constituency Report 2010

The COP16 in Cancún, Mexico in 2010 led to an unprecedented eight references to gender and climate change in outcome text. However, there is still much work to be done to ensure that women’s perspectives and needs are incorporated into UNFCCC negotiations, agreements, plans, and actions. Leading the way is the Women and Gender Constituency, which works to make certain that human rights and the gender dimension of climate change are addressed at all levels of decision-making at the UNFCCC.

Formed in November 2009, the Women and Gender Constituency is comprised of eight observer NGOs to the UNFCCC, including some networks. In total, the Constituency represents hundreds of individuals, grassroots groups, and national and international organizations.
