EVENT- Diversity and Inclusivity in Decision-Making: Changing the Face of Representation at the UNFCCC

Doha, Qatar (November 26, 2012)– The world is spiraling toward climate disaster and the UNFCCC negotiations have not made necessary progress to avoid reaching planetary tipping points. We need to think differently and for that, we need an equitable representation of perspectives at the table. Hosted by the Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO), this informal ‘brownbag lunch’ invites observers and participants in the UNFCCC process to join on representation and transforming these negotiations via diversity and inclusivity.

DETAILS:

  • Whose voices are able to be represented at the UNFCCC on government delegations?
  • Could greater diversity in the climate talks lead to better consensus building?
  • What strategies could be used to promote diverse participation; particularly of women, and strengthen their role in UNFCCC negotiations?
  • What challenges do groups and communities- women, youth, indigenous, etc.—face in being represented effectively in these spaces?
  • How can countries benefit from a more inclusive approach to the make-up of their national delegations?
