16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence
25 November - 10 December 2007
Day 1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear friends,
Today marks the launch of the 2007 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence, the annual campaign held from 25 November to 10 December, between the International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Violence Against Women and International Human Rights Day.
Since 1991, the 16 Days Campaign has helped to raise awareness about gender violence and has highlighted its effects on women globally.
Throughout 2007, MisFortune 500 has worked to raise awareness of the role corporate power and practices plays in women's daily lives-addressing women's rights issues such as access to living wages, working conditions, discriminatory practices, health, verbal and physical violence, and access to natural resources and sustenance livelihoods.
We have also documented women at the forefront of protests and campaigns to assert their human rights to live free from discrimination, inequality, harassment and violence in all forms, including by corporations.
During the next 16 days, MisFortune 500 will feature some of the leading stories of 2007 year that demonstrate what women continue to be up against and ways they are resisting violence and working for change.
Stay tuned for these MisFortune 500 updates from now until International Human Rights Day on 10 December, and click here for more general information of the 16 Days Campaign.
